In a world that never seems to slow down, finding a moment of peace and tranquillity can be challenging. Every day, we battle against stress, anxiety, and exhaustion, and it can be difficult to know how to cope. For me, aromatherapy has always been the remedy I reach for when I'm feeling overwhelmed. The right blend of essential oils can work wonders, transporting me to a place of calm and balance where I can forget about the outside world for a while. This (!), alongside the power of minerals, is really one of the key reasons I started Verdant Alchemy.
For me, aromatherapy is like having a therapist in a bottle. Not only does it smell divine, but it can also really sort my head out. So it was important when we grew the brand to add reflective potent bath oils to the mix, rooted in aromatherapy's therapeutic properties.
The benefits of aromatherapy are numerous, and one of the most prominent ones is its ability to relieve stress. Stress is a leading cause of many health problems, from high blood pressure to anxiety and depression. When we experience stress, our body releases cortisol, a hormone that can negatively impact our health if it's not kept in check. However, aromatherapy bath oils can help reduce cortisol levels and promote relaxation. In addition, the scent of these oils stimulates the olfactory system, which is linked to the part of the brain that controls emotions and memories. This can help to reduce anxiety and promote a sense of calm, making it easier to unwind after a stressful day.
Another benefit of aromatherapy bath oils is their ability to boost energy levels. Many essential oils such as lemon, rosemary, and eucalyptus, have invigorating properties that can help to stimulate the mind and body. When added to a bath, these oils can help to wake you up and provide a natural energy boost, making them the perfect pick-me-up when you're feeling sluggish or tired.
Aromatherapy bath oils can also help improve sleep quality, which is essential for maintaining good health. Many of these oils, such as lavender, chamomile, and bergamot, have sedative properties that can help to promote relaxation and improve sleep quality. When added to a warm bath, these oils can help to create a soothing and calming atmosphere that can help you to drift off into a deep, restful sleep.
Aromatherapy can also have a positive impact on mental health. The scent of these oils can help uplift your mood and improve your overall well-being. Many of these oils, such as citrus oils like lemon and orange, are known for their mood-boosting properties and can help to combat feelings of depression and anxiety. By promoting relaxation and reducing stress, these oils can help improve mental clarity and overall mental health.
However, it's not just identifying key ingredients for certain purposes that make aromatherapy work for the bath- I have blended ingredients that are famous for their therapeutic benefits but smell awful with other essential oils. Therefore, it is important to balance therapeutic benefits with a blend that smells gorgeous and relaxing. I always benchmark my aromatherapy blends to perfume- would I wear this as a functional fragrance? The answer is always a yes.
I created four aromatherapy bath oil blends from my popular bath salt range, each with a core purpose. Each oil is super comforting, smells divine and is quite potent; a few drops to a cap will work its magic. It is also water-soluble, which means it lathers into a milky texture when mixed with water, not leaving any greasy films in your bath or shower. I love massaging it into my skin before sinking in the bath or having a shower, it really leaves a delicious smell on your body that can last all day.
Here are our four bath oils:
