We all love the feeling of waking up in the morning refreshed from a great night of sleep. While sleep is something we all need, it’s not always that simple to achieve. We have all felt like we are sleep deprived or that we have poor sleep hygiene where that deep slumber is impossible to achieve. At Verdant Alchemy, we take our sleep and yours very seriously, so here are five tips to help you achieve a great night’s sleep.
 

Create a Sleep Ritual 

You want to allow yourself to have time before bed to relax and wind down with a pre-bedtime routine to alert your body that sleep is near. This routine can consist of taking a bath, practicing mindful breathing, journaling, or reading a good book. Setting a bedtime for yourself can help your body understand when it should naturally start winding down. This will help reset your circadian rhythm to a proper sleep-wake cycle that promotes restorative sleep and will increase daytime productivity.  
 

Say No to Screen Time

As much as some of us may not want to hear it, one of the best things you can do before bed is to turn off all devices an hour before it’s time to snooze. We have all gotten into the habit of binging our favourite shows or mindlessly scrolling through social media before bed. Try turning off all devices an hour before bed and practicing some window methods that don’t involve such a stimulation light to let your brain wind down.

Remember, there are no rules to the practice of journaling as long as you are writing things down.  

Take a Bath

This indicates to your circadian rhythm that it is time for bed, thus improving your sleep quality. Once you are in a routine of evening bathing, this practice can help alert your brain that it is time to wind down and start getting sleepy.
