Learn About Lavender

Who doesn’t love lavender? From its beautiful purple flowers, its wonderful aroma, to its healing properties, what doesn’t this plant do? Here at Verdant Alchemy, lavender is one of our most powerful ingredients in a wide array of our products. While we all know and love the plant many of us don’t know much beyond its surface so let us teach you about its many benefits.

Lavender plants are small shrubs with greenish-grey leaves and beautiful purple flowers that spike out on the top of the plant. The plants first originated in the western European part of the Mediterranean region. Lavender got its name from the Latin word ‘lavare’ meaning ‘to wash’ as the Romans used Lavender to scent their clothes, baths, and bodies. Its fragrance is caused by the oil glands impeded in the tiny plant hairs covering the flowers, leaves, and stems.

Besides its heavenly smell lavender has many health benefits which is the main reason why we use this ingredient so frequently.

Antiseptic and Anti-inflammatory

We want to aid you with the proper tools to look after your skin without applying any harmful chemicals. Lavender oil contains beta-caryophyllene which has properties that are anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory that can heal minor burns and bug bites and restore skin complexion.

Reduce Anxiety and Emotional Stress

Lavender has been shown to have effects on the parasympathetic nervous system which controls your body's fight or flight responses. Lavender can help reduce common symptoms associated with anxiety by regulating heart rate, breathing rhythm, lowering adrenaline and hormone secretion. This contributes to restoring one's body to a neutral state. Studies have also been done linking the use of lavender aromatherapy to reducing the emotional symptoms during the premenstrual phase, otherwise known as PMS.

Improve Melatonin Levels

Melatonin is a natural hormone that occurs in your body. This hormone helps control one's sleep patterns and can be used to treat sleep problems. Higher levels of melatonin will lend themselves to improving the quality of a night’s sleep.
Now that you know all that lavender has to offer we want to introduce you to our lavender-filled products guaranteed to enrich your mind, body, and spirit.
